| INFORMATION
ABOUT THE COMMUNITIES OF THE SACRED VALLEY |
DISTRICT OF HUAYLLABAMBA
DESCRIPTION AND BRIEF OVERVIEW.
All the communities in the District of Huayllabamba are
located in the Province of Urubamba, in the Department
of Cusco. They are agricultural communities, producing
vegetables, fruit, and potatoes; most families are large,
with 5 to 7 children, and economically disadvantaged,
therefore they need support in different areas. All the
communities are easily reachable from Cusco with buses
running at all times, and they all have telephone access.
The work of the Volunteer Project has begun in 3 out of
5 communities in the District, which is located in the
Inca Sacred Valley. Continuous and strong volunteer participation
over the next months and years is necessary to carry out
the Project and achieve our goals. The communities are
excited to participate in the cultural exchange, and our
experience with the first Volunteers has allowed us to
gain a better understanding of the communites’ basic
and educational needs. We especially support education
projects, based on a cultural exchange between the Volunteer
and the families. In the future we hope to carry out development
projects designed by the Volunteers. The Mayor has expressed
his interest in the program and is currently serving as
mediator between our Project and the communities, therefore
we are committed to support the District. |
